Introducing the 100mentors Mission

Last Updated on November 17, 2017

Why

The problem

We take our once-in-a-lifetime decisions quite randomly*.

The mission

We empower the youth to consciously** pursue their career & academic paths.

How

Definitions

*Randomly: During our school & university years, we run into 2-3 people, usually a relative or an inspirational teacher, who act as our role models who we want to become “when we grow up”. We do not have exposure to the full spectrum of options that will allow us to try different aspects of our special inclinations & talents. By excluding a wide range of alternatives our decisions are limited to a sample of options, usually not selected by us.

**Consciously: We increase the number from 2-3 to 50-100 role models that the students select & meet during an academic year. We have built a safe, non-intimidating environment where students, teachers & parents set the agenda of the meetings with professionals worldwide who interact with the students through live video, from the convenience of their desks, at their working environments or at their universities.

What

1. Enhance your lecture

Bring to class the scientists, engineers, authors, entrepreneurs, and all those who give birth to the class material and apply the knowledge to which the lecture is based on.

Teachers pair their:

  • Music class with a jazz virtuoso from a New Orleans quartet
  • Chemistry class with a lab researcher in Sydney, Australia
  • History class with a museum director in Rome

Example:

  • Where: Αmerican International School Cyprus
  • Who: High-Level Econ Class, IB Grade 12
  • Topic: Insights from an Economist, “Live Citation” for a Class Assignment
  • Mentor: A. Rysova, World Bank Consultant

2. Academic Fair, On-Demand

Schedule monthly academic fairs with your students’ target universities. Program officers, professors, alumni & current students cover all the different angles your students need to consider to land their dream university.

3. Career Day, Every Day

Role models from leading organisations worldwide speak, offer internship and job shadowing opportunities to students directly from their offices and on-demand.

Inspired by Simon Sinek’s, Golden Circle concept:

So, Ready to Empower Your Students?

100mentors is the platform and network empowering students to connect with mentors on-demand to guide them in their most important academic and career decisions. With 100mentors, schools enable students to open up their circles of influence to include mentors from 300+ universities and 500+ companies across the world, while companies and universities are able to tap into a quality pool of potential program and job candidates.

Yiorgos enjoys surrounding himself with his role models: educators & entrepreneurs. After having worked in 4 US states, Spain, Greece & China, “arguing like I am right, listening like I am wrong” is his motto.
